1.14.4 could technically support 50 players, but only with redstone disabled, mobs limited and automatic items deletion (if they are on the ground). Based on this we will not be updating for now. If paper can fix 1.14.4 performance we will update, if not we will wait for 1.15 and hope Mojang delivers on the promise of an upgrade to Minecraft performance.
I’m going to run a test server tomorrow to see how 1.14.4 performs. There will most likely be multiple reboots and any and all progress you make on there won’t count towards the main server. Please be aware that some parts will still be connected so don’t do stupid thins on there and listen closely to the instructions of the staff team since they will be telling you how you can best help us test. This test will done at 11 pm UTC this Monday (07/22/2019). The test server will be as similar as possible to the actual server we’d be running. There will be a few small exceptions such as that not all plugins will be hooked in to their databases such as mcmmo (so mcmmo levels won’t sync), and some plugins won’t be there at all or will be different ones that are already updated.
I hope as many of you as possible will be there to assist in the test. I will open it up with a 50 player limit and depending on performance I will be changing it. As I mentioned before there will be reboots, most of these will most likely be to adjust the player limit to see what 1.14.4 can handle at the moment.
During the tests the Events and Creative server will not be running to free up ram for the extra server. The normal survival servers will keep running. You need to be on 1.14.4 to be able to join the test server. You’ll be able to join using the test server using the events portal once the testing starts.
I have been monitoring when the server has the least amount of players on to see if the reboot time was at the best possible time. From what I found the servers are the least active between 7 am and 12 pm (noon) UTC. Currently the servers reboot at 7 am but I’m moving it over to 12 pm. I have chosen this time because it’s close to when the admins and I are up so we will be able to fix any issues that arise during reboots closer to the time they happen.
This change will also affect when the Nether and End reboot, they will now be at 12 pm UTC just like the normal reboots. Keep this in mind next time you try to be online during the reset, for most people this will mean getting up early instead of staying up late.
