Attention everyone. If you live on Summit or Meadow, please take note: StackMob will be removed in 12 hours. When the plugin is removed all stacks will become a single mob (it will still say “#x Mobs” above their head, but thats just a normal nametag.)
If you lost mobs because of StackMob being removed, and now have less than 10 mobs of a certain type in your farm, you may ask a staff member to spawn in a few to get you back up to 10 mobs. We will not spawn in more than 10, because we want to take this opportunity to get a head start on limiting farm sizes.
Remember: we need to keep our farm sizes minimal to limit how many mobs are on the server. It’s the only way we can stay lag-free without completely disabling mobs.

The “disappearing” entities this morning was caused by a bug in a recent Paper update. They fixed it and I installed the fix. According to the changelog, the entities never “disappeared”, they just weren’t visible.
They are all back now.
We have concluded that StackMob was the cause of the recent lag. The problem, was that there were so many stacks on Valley that the plug-in was using all of the server’s RAM to keep track of them. This caused the server to constantly try to free up some RAM and the CPU was over capacity because it was preoccupied doing endless memory garbage collection.
We now have a new issue: StackMob worked great at reducing entity lag, which means fixing one cause of lag is only going to lead to another…
We need your help! Limit the size of your farms! Only have as many animals as you need. Do NOT leave grinders running, and don’t build grinders that aren’t necessary. Together, if we can be smart about it, we may be able to live without StackMob.
Mobs cause a TON of lag. If we are going to stay lag free we need all of you help. The alternative is just disabling mobs entirely, and we don’t want to do that.
As part of our testing for the recent lag we are removing the StackMob plugin from Valley. We will run the server for about an hour after it is removed to collect some data on Valley’s performance without the plugin.
If we conclude that StackMob is NOT the cause of the lag we will be reinstalling it. In order to do this, and not have everyone’s mobs lost, we will be rollbacking the entire server back to the point of before the reboot.
If we conclude that StackMob IS the cause of the lag, there will be no rollback.

We are aware of the recent lag spikes on the survival servers. We are currently in the process of figuring out what is causing the lag spikes. Once we discover the root cause of the problem we can them begin researching solutions.
A few days ago we disabled Pigmen spawns near nether portals because we noticed they were accounting for up to 25% of a server’s total CPU load. This change did not entirely fix the issue, however, and tonight we will be removing the Playtime plugin since timings reports suggest it may be the cause of the spikes.
We can not tell at this time whether these features will remain disabled or not. We cannot make a decision until we have collected enough data, pinpointed the cause(s) of the lag, and explored all possible options.

We have many great applications to look over and I’m sure the final decision will be a difficult one. We will announce our new trainees soon!
This years Christmas event is hide and seek, just like last time but with a new and bigger map so all of us can play it together!
