1.13.1 Treasure Hunt – Our Biggest Event Ever!

Hello everyone! As you may have heard, there’s been a 1.13(.1) event in the works for quite some time now. With the server release hopefully only a few days away, it is finally time to announce the event: a server-wide underwater treasure hunt that spans the entire 18K by 18K world!

Hidden throughout the entire world are roughly 5,000 little chests, like the one shown above, each one with some loot inside and an Event Tag. You can find these chests anywhere there is naturally water: oceans, rivers, lakes, swamps, and more. Your goal is to collect as many of these Event Tags as you can. Scattered throughout these chests is also 100 complete sets of Atlantean Tools/Armor. Each part of the set is a custom-named enchanted item.

You will have two weeks, starting the day the server is released, to find as many of these chests as you can! At the end of the two weeks we will collect all of the event tags and the three players to find the most Event Tags will win a special prize.

Hey guys, I’ve been holding off from making announcements because I do not want to provide any inaccurate information or etas, but I would like to update you on what has been going on:

Aikar, one of the developers of Paper, is working on a few feature: async chunk generation. This will allow the server to generate the world on multiple CPU threads rather than just one, and will hopefully fix lag normally caused by world generation. This feature came just in time, because the world pre-generation has been very difficult and we are most likely dropping the idea. Instead, if the async chunk generation works, we will let the world generate as everyone plays in it.

Also, the first version of the warp plugin has arrived and I am excited to say that it is looking very good! We are tweaking a few things, but it definitely looks like it will be ready for 1.13.1 and it is awesome to use. I’m very excited for all of the player towns, shops, and grinders we will have in 1.13.1.

Finally, we have a small team that is working on the 1.13.1 server: setting up the 1.13.1 event, testing all of the features, and fixing all of the bugs. There are a few things that aren’t working yet (creative & MyPet), but they will be added as soon as they do work, and otherwise things are looking very good!

It was a difficult decision to make, but after careful consideration of all the applications we received, we were able to narrow them down to our two newest Trainees. Good morning everyone! I’m very excited to announce that we’ve commissioned a new developer to write our warp plugin for 1.13! This is a new feature for our 1.13 server that we’ve had planned since February and, unfortunately, we still don’t have a functional version of the plugin – but that should be changing very soon! (A few of you may have seen in previous announcements that we’ve been having some issues with the developer we originally commissioned to write our new warp plugin.)

Yesterday, after searching for a new developer for about a week, and speaking with multiple potential candidates, I decided on a team of devs named “Orpheus Services”. They are beginning work on the new plugin immediately and have given an ETA of one week for the first draft. Based on their ETA, and the time this new pre-generation is taking, I believe this plugin will be finished in-time for our 1.13 server!

After several hours of testing and research I am fairly confident the tree issue is a vanilla bug, but PaperSpigot (optimized code for running a server) changed something that made the bug much worse. I am now pre-generating the world again without using PaperSpigot and I expect this to fix almost all of the trees.

This process will postpone the release of the 1.13 server, but I believe it will be worth the wait to have a stable server with a beautiful bug-free world. Due to the complexity of this upgrade and the amount of unexpected bugs that have popped up, I am not able to give an estimate on when the server will be ready. However, _if_ everything goes smoothly moving forward, the world will be ready in less than 2 weeks.

We’ve just discovered a bug that occurred during the world pre-generation. All of the trees that were on a chunk border had some of their leaves cut off. At this point in time we are planning to continue to use this world and just live with the broken trees. However, if the bug that caused this is patched before we are ready to release the server, we will be redoing the pre-generation process to fix all the trees.

If we do end up using this world, I encourage everyone to cut down the broken trees and replant them.

The new world has finished pre-generating and we are now beginning the process of rendering the entire dynmap. During this time we are also setting up the 1.13 server-wide event (that will be officially announced soon).

Once these two processes are complete we plan to release the new server, as long as no major set-backs pop up. There are still a few bugs on 1.13, and not all of our plugins have updated, but as we previously announced – we will be updating regardless, and we will just deal with the bugs until they are fixed.

Major bugs we are aware of: EssentialsX doesn’t fully support 1.13 item names so some features (economy, kits, /give, etc) may not work. PlotSquared “mostly” works on 1.13, but occasionally causes the server to crash, likely due to chunk generation, so there will be no creative world yet. Vote crates do not work at all. Teleportation causes your screen to glitch for a second afterwards. The warp plugin that we planned to release with 1.13 was not finished by the developer we hired, so it will be at least a month before this feature is ready.

There is currently a glitch when converting 1.12 worlds to 1.13 that causes double chests to lose their contents if they are split by a chunk border (one half in one chunk, one half in another). Please check your plot and move your double chests if they are split in half by the chunk borders. To see chunk borders use F3+G.

Staff will be checking plots, but to ensure your stuff is safe please check your own plot. Please do not report other plots. We have a system for checking all of them in a certain order and we will not fix one out of order. Only check your own plot.

World Pre-gen is now 50% Complete

World Pre-gen is now 50% Complete

I’ve set up an automated script that reboots the beta server every hour so that it is not running out of memory and sitting idle. The pre-generation process for the 1.13 world is now 51.1% complete. We’ve now generated over 1 billion blocks (by “block” I mean a single column from bedrock to sky limit). The world is over 25GB in size, and I expect it to grow to roughly 100GB after we finish generating it and render the dynmap.

After the pre-generation process is finished we will begin rendering the dynmap. I do not expect this to take as long as the pre-generation. We will also set up the 1.13 server event during this time. After both of these processes are finished, I am hoping to release the server.

There are still several bugs, but we will work around them, or live with them, until they are patched. At this current moment: we are looking into whether creative will be stable or not (some reports have said the plot plugin can crash the server), vote crates will not work (the crate plugin has not updated), and the new warp plugin for towns is not ready (the developer I hired did not finish the plugin and I’m currently dealing with a Paypal dispute).
