1.13.1 Preparation Started

1.13.1 Preparation Started

Some of our plugins, including WorldEdit, have updated and we are now able to begin working on the new server. There are still many bugs – teleportation causes visual glitches, worldedit causes chunks to not generate, and ChestShops started throwing some errors that I haven’t looked at yet. This all means we are NOT ready yet, but progress is being made. We are currently pre-generating the new world. Because of how large it is, it looks like it’s going to…

Spigot Has Released a 1.13.1 Version

Spigot Has Released a 1.13.1 Version

The team over at <spigotmc.org> have released their first 1.13.1 compatible version. Spigot is the code that runs our server and was the primary reason we weren’t able to update sooner. With this version now being released by the Spigot team, we should be able to update very soon. However, during my initial tests, I found that there are some plugins that are not compatible with 1.13.1 – this is something we did not expect, and we will need to…

Please Check Your URLs/IPs!

Please Check Your URLs/IPs!

Little mini announcement, but an important one: over the past 4 years we’ve changed our URLs and IPs a few times, and I’ve done my best to support the old ones each time, but recently some of the old ones broke and I received numerous reports about them not working. So, everyone please take a moment to check what you are using to get to our stuff: 1. You should only use play.alttd.com to connect to the Minecraft server. Do…

New Rank Names

New Rank Names

Some of you may have already noticed some new ranks in chat today. Earlier today we renamed all of our regular time-based ranks, as well as all of our premium purchase-able ranks. The decision to change these was made due to the lack of consistency and theme that the old ranks had. (The old ranks’ order was a bit subjective and the premium ranks’ names had nothing to do with anything else on the server.) These new ranks are based…

New Server = More Space

New Server = More Space

Since we’ve upgraded the server we have a lot more hard drive space to work with now, and we’ve decided to make our new world a little bit bigger than originally planned. Our original plan was to have the world start at 18K by 18K and expand by 1K in both X and Z every month until we reached 30K by 30K. We’ve decided instead to expand by 2K in both directions every month until we reach a maximum of…

New Hardware – Final Choice

New Hardware – Final Choice

For the past week we’ve been running on the most expensive hardware that our host offers (the server we are using now is $120/m). After watching the performance during this time we’ve decided that the difference is negligible and does not justify the 3X price increase over our old hardware (which was $48/m). We were going to revert back to our old hardware, but when I starting working on switching back I realized the old server only had 2x 240GB…

Most Plugins Ready – Waiting for 1.13.1

Most Plugins Ready – Waiting for 1.13.1

It’s been a few days since our last update, so I want to let everyone know how the 1.13 process is going. As you all know, **we are waiting for 1.13.1** before we release a public server because 1.13 has some world-breaking and server-crashing bugs. Once 1.13.1 is released we are hoping PaperSpigot will update very soon after (we are _hoping_ for 1/2 days) and then as long as our plugins still work, which they should, we will release the…

“Mature” Server Expectations

“Mature” Server Expectations

Hey everyone, just a friendly reminder that Altitude is intended to be a “mature” environment. We are a public server and welcome everyone, but please be aware that we allow swearing and conversation about adult-oriented topics (as long as the conversation remains civil and mature). If you are not comfortable with these things, Altitude may not be the best server for you. At the same time, immature usage of swear words and immature conversation about adult topics will not be…

Nameserver Change – May Appear Offline

Nameserver Change – May Appear Offline

I’ve just changed our nameservers (this is who manages our domain and all connections to it) from CloudFlare to Google. Any DNS change, such as this one, can take time to fully prorogate through the internet. Some users may see the website or Minecraft server as offline for short period. It is not actually offline! If you see if offline you can try clearing your cache, and even try changing your DNS servers to Google’s (8.8.8.8 and 8.4.4.4), but you…

$125 Server Upgrade Goal

$125 Server Upgrade Goal

Hey everyone! You may have noticed a lot of new new merch being released recently. Here’s the situation: with so many new players joining recently we are frequently hitting our server’s player limit and we’ve been faced with a tough decision: should we reduce some settings to improve server performance, or upgrade our hardware? It looks like in order to support more than 50 players online with our current hardware we need to reduce view distances, reduce mob spawn rates,…
